Some dogs have a favorite toy. Wally has a favorite person — and when the internet found out how much he loves his grandma, they demanded a reunion.
A Comment That Couldn’t Be Ignored

It started with one viewer saying exactly what everyone was thinking: “Where is grandma?! She needs to be there IMMEDIATELY!”
Wally, a golden retriever with a very big heart, has never hidden how he feels about his grandma.
So his family did the only reasonable thing. They showed grandma the comments — and she dropped everything to come see her boy.
“Your Grandma’s Here”

You can tell a lot about a dog by how he reacts to three little words. For Wally, “your grandma’s here” is basically a starting pistol.
His family barely got the sentence out before he was up and moving, aiming straight for the back door.
There was a person out there he needed to see, and not one second could be wasted.

Out onto the deck he flew, all wagging tail and pounding paws, scanning for the one face he’d been waiting for.
Goldens don’t do subtle. When Wally is happy, the entire backyard knows it.
By the time he spotted grandma coming through the gate, he could barely contain himself.
A Welcome Fit For Royalty

Grandma knelt down, and Wally lost it — the wiggles, the leaning, the desperate campaign for kisses. “Easy, easy — don’t hurt yourself,” his family laughed.
This is the reunion the whole internet had asked for, and it did not disappoint.
Some dogs greet grandparents politely. Wally greets his like she’s been gone at sea for a decade.
She Came Bearing Gifts

Grandma, of course, did not arrive empty-handed. She’d brought toys — a soft stuffed friend, and, she mentioned, a duck too.
Wally accepted his present the way he accepts all good things: with his whole heart and a very full mouth.
The internet asked for one thing: bring grandma to Wally.
She heard them, and she came running.
And a golden retriever got the best afternoon of his week.

Why Dogs Pick A Favorite Person
Wally’s grandma obsession isn’t random — dogs form real, specific attachments to the people who make them feel good. A few things fuel a bond like his:
- Positive association is everything. A person who brings treats, toys, and calm affection becomes a walking good-feeling. Grandma checks every box.
- Goldens are people-dogs by design. This breed was bred to work closely with humans, so deep social bonds come naturally — more on the breed in our golden retriever guides.
- Routine visitors become family. Dogs remember and anticipate the people who show up again and again. Curious how dogs read us? See our dog behavior guides.
