Gamja the Golden Retriever had one thing: a stuffed animal she kept curling up with. She was the only dog in a California home while her family quietly thought about a second.
Then came Chip.
A Dog Who Was Ready
Gamja’s name means “potato” in Korean — and she carries that name with calm, deliberate energy. Her family describes her as “very cautious, very careful.” She double-checks things. She watches before she moves.
She was a solo dog before Yuni brought home a puppy.
That puppy was Chip.
The Day That Changed Everything
Chip arrived small, pale, and full of himself — a cream-colored contrast to Gamja’s darker, warmer coat.
They didn’t need a slow introduction.
“And then they wouldn’t stop kissing each other,” according to Yuni’s own words in the video.
Nothing Alike
Here’s the quirk at the center of this story: Gamja and Chip are complete opposites.
Gamja double-checks everything before she moves. Chip just goes for it. According to the video, Gamja is “very cautious, very careful” — Chip is “adventurous.” The Dodo’s own caption for this video puts it plainly: they “couldn’t be more different.”
He Copies Everything She Does
Counter-surfing in the kitchen. Sleeping side by side. Walking in step.
Chip started mirroring the big sister who had welcomed him in, and she let him. “I was so thankful that Gamja welcomed Chip,” Yuni has shared, “and that Chip became the most perfect little brother to her.” Five months in: matching goggles in the car.
What Two Opposites Know
What Gamja showed Chip from day one wasn’t her personality. It was her presence. And Chip turned out to need exactly that kind of anchor.
Some pairs just make sense. Not because they match — because one of them was ready the moment the other walked in.
